Use this as a checklist while you prepare (items marked PhD are for doctoral applicants):
- Passport โ valid for at least 18 more months
- Degree certificates of all tertiary studies (Bachelor’s + Master’s for PhD); final-year students: certificate of current study
- Transcripts of all tertiary studies (Bachelor’s + Master’s)
- Research interest statement + research proposal (2,000+ words), signed by your supervisor on the title page PhD
- Two academic recommendation letters โ recently signed, with referee email and phone
- Language score report: HSK 5 (210+) / IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 90
- Foreigner Physical Examination Record โ all items completed, lab reports attached, photo with cross-page seal; valid 6 months
- Non-criminal record certificate โ issued by police only; valid 6 months (keep it valid until your visa application)
- Publication list + soft copy of your Master’s thesis and best papers PhD

- Latest visa/residence permit + moral character certificate โ only if you previously studied or worked in China
Certified translations must be attached for any document not in Chinese or English.

Master’s (CSC Type B)
- Prepare all documents from the checklist above.
- Apply on the ZZU system: zzu.17gz.org โ register and upload everything.
- Apply on the CSC portal: studyinchina.csc.edu.cn โ choose Type B, Agency No. 10459.
- Mail the paper documents to ZZU as instructed in the admission notice.
- Wait for the university review and CSC approval โ results are announced online.
PhD (President Scholarship + CSC Type B)
- Contact a supervisor first. Use the schools page, email a professor with your research proposal and publications, and get an acceptance letter with a signed proposal title page.
- Fill in the President Scholarship application form and apply on the ZZU system.
- Round 1 applicants: also apply on the CSC portal for Type B (10459) for the same program โ both are reviewed together.
- Selection runs in four stages: supervisor assessment โ school selection โ university acceptance โ government approval.
- Check your result online when announced.

- Plagiarism = rejection. ZZU checks research proposals for copied content at every review stage.
- The physical exam form and non-criminal record are only valid for 6 months โ time them carefully.
- The President Scholarship is renewed yearly based on the annual review.
- Current students must obtain their Master’s degree before registration, or the offer is revoked.
- September is the only PhD intake โ missing registration deadlines can cost you the scholarship.

The Zhengzhou University agency number is 10459. Choose Type B on the CSC portal.
What is the deadline for the ZZU President Scholarship 2027?
PhD Round 1: 31 January 2027 (apply for CSC Type B at the same time). Round 2: May 2027 โ the ZZU portal lists 15 May. September intake only.
Is there a deadline for Master’s applications?
The ZZU Master’s notice does not print a fixed date. Apply on both systems (ZZU + CSC) and mail your paper documents as early as possible โ ideally by the end of January, when the first CSC Type B selections are processed.
Can I study in English at ZZU?
Yes. Master’s: 8 promoted English-taught programs (Nursing, Architecture, Environmental Science, Tourism Management, International Trade, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutics). PhD: most of the 117 programs can be taught in English โ confirm with your supervisor.
Do I need IELTS or TOEFL?
For English-taught programs: IELTS 6.5 (PhD also accepts TOEFL 90). Master’s applicants with a previous English-taught degree may be exempt. For Chinese-taught programs: HSK 5 with 210+.
How much is the President Scholarship stipend?
3,500 CNY/month living allowance + 1,000 CNY/month housing allowance + free tuition, for 4 years (renewed after annual review).
Do Master’s applicants need a supervisor acceptance letter?
No โ the acceptance letter is a PhD requirement. Master’s applicants just apply on both systems and mail the paper documents.
Does ZZU have a foundation (pre-bachelor) program?
Yes โ a one-year self-funded Business & Management Foundation Program (CNY 15,000 tuition) leading to bachelor admission with a scholarship chance. The 2026 round closed on 30 June 2026; watch the ZZU international site for the 2027 round.
